On Friday morning, South Pend Oreille Fire Rescue responded to a residential fire on Yarrow Lane, in Newport. Arriving crews found a well-involved structure fire and acted quickly to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to dry brush and nearby structures. SPOFR thanks our volunteers, career staff, and mutual aid partners for their response (POCFD #4, SFD #4). No injuries were reported, and crews made multiple saves of dogs, cats, and chickens. The Red Cross was mobilized to assist displaced residents as crews operated for approximately four hours.
This is SPOFR’s third residential structure fire in 18 days. We are always here to serve with pride, but as winter approaches, we want to remind our neighbors to practice good fire safety habits. Feel free to contact Chief Stocking at any time with fire safety questions.-
Chief Stocking said “The cause of the fire is under investigation and is likely a lithium-ion battery. SPOFR wants to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the dangers of storing lithium-ion batteries in your home.”
