South Pend Oreille Fire and Rescue continues the volunteer appreciation program called SPOFR Volunteer Spotlight. This is a way to recognize the volunteers when you see them in the community grocery store or at any local activities.

Michael Hines, Firefighter
Michael Hines has been named South Pend Oreille Fire and Rescue’s Volunteer of the Month. He has been with SPOFR since November of 2023 and he has been a general contractor, disaster site worker, and land developer. He is currently the owner of Alpine Cabin Works in Newport.
Michael graduated from the SPOFR Fire Academy and attended all of the wildland fire classes. Michael plans on attending the upcoming EMT classes. He says, “SPOFR is great! The kids are all raised and gone, and I had to have something to do.”
Interim Chief Mike Nokes said, “Michael is a great asset for SPOFR and is always helpful during his time volunteering with SPOFR.”
