At 0808 on December 12th, South Pend Oreille Fire was alerted to a reported residential fire in the Diamond View Rd area of HWY 211. SPOFR responded with two engines, an ambulance, multiple tenders and command staff with upwards of 11 personnel. First arriving crews initiated an aggressive exterior and interior attack and fought valiantly to save the home and various outbuildings and vehicles. Heavy snowfall and icy roads hampered efforts and rendered many fire apparatus stuck or unable to make it to the scene. Even with the challenging conditions, crews were able to keep the fire to the building of origin, though the residence was a near total loss. The cause is under investigation and SPOFR would like to thank our mutual aid partners from Spokane District 4 and Pend Oreille 4, as well as Pend Oreille County for bringing in sand and clearing a path for our trucks. Please direct any questions to the office of Fire Chief Stocking.
